Trends: 2013 Color of the Year

Drum roll please......its Emerald Green! The 2013 color of the year is the magical, mysterious and enchanting color of Emerald Green. It evokes the feeling of youthful glamour when you wear it, elegance and status when used in home decor and an enchanting "regal-ness" when used for a wedding or an event's table design.

Emerald Green is great as a textile or container accent for a wedding or event because it is hard to get that real Emerald color in a flower. Try using bright colored flowers like fuchsia orange or yellow to add a fun pop of contrast against a Emerald Green linen or vase. Or if you want to go all out green you can go with Chartreuse green flowers like hydrangea, parrot tulips, viburnum or ranunculas.

Once you start looking at Emerald Green inspirations you will start noticing the color everywhere!

Trend: Succulents

If you didn't know, well now you know...Succulents are in! 

 

We know some of you might be thinking to yourself "succulents have been trending for awhile", which is true but most of the time it has been for rustic or earthy designs. Now we are seeing and using them more often in almost any type of event from whimsical or gardeny to modern or elegant and even romantic. Succulents are a great accent to modernize and add interesting texture to any arrangement.

An unexpected twist to a classic garden arrangement.

Great for boutonnieres and bouquets to hold through the entire wedding...even through all the hugs

 A great pop of green with other vibrant colors and fun textures like coxcomb or parrot tulips.

 We know you don't want to think about it but the holidays are upon us and if you are in the mood for something different think about adding succulents into your holiday decor.

Press: Grace Ormonde Wedding Style

We are so excited to be featured in the new Fall/Winter 2012 issue of Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine, the magazine hits stores today. 

 

This table design was really fun for us to get to use some of our favorite types of flowers in unique ways. Joyce from Events of Distinction designed the triangle table layout and set the tone for us at Michael Daigian Design to create designs that were modern and unique. 

 

The photo shoot took place on the upper level of Terra Gallery in San Francisco. The staff there was so amazing and accommodating, they even moved a painting for us from downstairs to our shoot location that matched our table perfectly.If you are unfamiliar with this venue please check out their website and think of them for your next event. We have been to many event's at Terra and designed for weddings that took place there. It is a perfect location if you want a unique open space or a "blank canvas" to create any type of style or look you want for your event.

Roberta from Resource One Inc. took the desired look, shape and feel of the table and created these custom linens and chair covers.

About 250 tall white calla's were used to create this custom floral chandelier. We even designed it took look like it was hanging from a calla stem.

Underneath this large chandelier we covered the mechanics with green galax leaves and you can see that the callas were stacked on top of each other to create the chandelier.

Designing free standing succulent runners took time and patience but we think it was worth it, don't you?

We used succulents, green fuzzy dianthus and milk plant to create this vibrant green and amazingly textured table runner.

We wrapped tall votive holders and the container of the middle low arrangement with a mesh of black crystals to give a subtle touch of bling to the table.

Low diamond shaped arrangement of yellow pin cushions, succulents and white phaleanopsis orchids was placed under the large chandelier to balance out the visual weight.

Black and silver footed vases from Accent Decor held clean lined arrangements of tall white callas, yellow pin cushions and succulents.

We accented the tall arrangements with black mesh to add a modern non-floral texture

The table is ready for its close-up now!

Trending: Ombre

Ombre refers to a gradual change in shade from light to dark, or from one color to another. It is not only the latest hair fashion for women right now, it also a new wedding design trend. We are noticing that more and more weddings are incorporating an ombre color scheme into their cakes, floral arrangements, bridesmaids dresses, and table decor. The wide range of vibrant colors allows for an exciting and unique wedding that will grab most everyone's attention.

Press: A Soolip Wedding

Here is a highlight video, from Film Foto Fusion, of A Soolip Wedding bridal event that Michael Daigian Design was a part of this past February at the beautiful Bently Reserve in San Francisco. We had a wonderful time showcasing our designs with all the top wedding industry professionals in the San Francisco/Bay Area.

Inspiration: Horti-Couture

On the cover of the April/May 2012 issue of Fusion Flowers there is a breathtaking red gown made entirely out of red flowers! When you flip to the article you see behind the scene shots of what it took to make this "Horti-Couture" gown.

 

We cannot get over how amazing the dress is and the amount of labor it took to create it. 7 trained designers worked 9 hours straight to make the main part of this Naomi rose petal dress where each petal was attached by hand to the fabric dress form with florist's cold glue. They then worked through the night to create the intricate hem of the gown to look like "living lace" with carnations, spray roses, chrysanthemums with a hand gilded gold leaf center and more Naomi rose petals. After it was all said and done they glued on an amazing 10,000 Naomi rose petals to create this Horti-Couture gown.

Joe Massie the designer created this one of a kind look for ASDA's National Valentines Day 2012 campaign.

We can appreciate the workmanship of hand gluing the flowers in the Naomi rose petal dress since we have first hand experience in what it is takes to do that.

Couture floral dress by our lead designer Jennifer Lato. She used Cherry Blossoms for the entire dress, Orchids for the necklace and belt, Wax Flower for the top of the bodice and Black Eucalyptus for the trim

Large rosette bridal bouquet made with ivory rose petals hand glued to form a "larger than life" garden rose.

Bouquets to Art 2010 display in Gump's display window. We created this ballet inspired dress with a Birch bark bodice, succulent detailing, ivory rose petal bodice and an ostrich feather skirt.

Bouquets To Art 2012: deYoung Museum

"Celebrate spring at the de Young, with the return of Bouquets to Art, the glorious annual floral exhibition and fundraiser. This five-day event, now in its 28th year, is produced by the San Francisco Auxiliary of the Fine Arts Museums, and features designs by 150 innovative floral designers who create displays that pay tribute to and draw inspiration from the de Young’s permanent art collection throughout the museum.Bouquets to Art is the largest fundraiser held to benefit the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Proceeds from this fundraiser support education and special exhibition programming at the Museums."

We hope you all got a chance to tour the de Young Museum during Bouquet's to Art this year or have gotten the chance to in past years, it really is something you don't want to miss.

Michael Daigian Design has been a part of this fabulous ode to art since it started 28 years ago.We had the honor of participating in Bouquets to Art once again this year with 2 special pieces of art as our inspirations, Cornelia Parkers "Anti-Mass" and Mark Rothko's "Untitled".

Michael's design inspiration was Mark Rothkos "Untitled 1949" and was featured in an article on the 2012 Bouquets to Art by the SFGate.

The week leading up to Bouquets to Art we also had the amazing opportunity to create a special display for Gump's again this year, the inspiration was "taking flight". Gump's has been wonderful in supporting Michael and his talent for creating one of a kind floral displays.

The Egret was first made with fresh flowers for the " Taking Flight" event at Gumps.

The Egret was then made out of non-floral elements to have it looking good while it was on display for over a week.

Macy's Flower Show 2012

If you have not seen the Macy's Flower Show or have not heard of it, we suggest you stop on by Macy's Union Square and check it out. Macy's painted a great picture with this description "Step into paradise at Macy's Union Square! Stroll through beautiful gardens & landscapes inspired by Carnaval, lush tropical rainforests, timeless Colonial Brasilia and Brasilian landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx." We could not have said it better ourselves.

Michael had the honor of opening this show with his "Bouquet of the day" which actually is on display for 4 days. We installed it late last Thursday night and it has been on display for customers since Friday March 23rd but today is the last day to see it in person. We had a great time at Macy's VIP breakfast on Friday morning that kicked off the Flower Show. Michael got up and spoke about his inspiration, answered questions and took photographs in front of his creation with everyone that admired his piece.

Michael's inspiration was his own trip to Rio de Janeiro many years ago where he saw the magnificent rainforests, the captivating waterfalls and beautiful ancient Brazilian architecture.
