Trends: 2013 Color of the Year

Drum roll please......its Emerald Green! The 2013 color of the year is the magical, mysterious and enchanting color of Emerald Green. It evokes the feeling of youthful glamour when you wear it, elegance and status when used in home decor and an enchanting "regal-ness" when used for a wedding or an event's table design.

Emerald Green is great as a textile or container accent for a wedding or event because it is hard to get that real Emerald color in a flower. Try using bright colored flowers like fuchsia orange or yellow to add a fun pop of contrast against a Emerald Green linen or vase. Or if you want to go all out green you can go with Chartreuse green flowers like hydrangea, parrot tulips, viburnum or ranunculas.

Once you start looking at Emerald Green inspirations you will start noticing the color everywhere!

Trend: Succulents

If you didn't know, well now you know...Succulents are in! 

 

We know some of you might be thinking to yourself "succulents have been trending for awhile", which is true but most of the time it has been for rustic or earthy designs. Now we are seeing and using them more often in almost any type of event from whimsical or gardeny to modern or elegant and even romantic. Succulents are a great accent to modernize and add interesting texture to any arrangement.

An unexpected twist to a classic garden arrangement.

Great for boutonnieres and bouquets to hold through the entire wedding...even through all the hugs

 A great pop of green with other vibrant colors and fun textures like coxcomb or parrot tulips.

 We know you don't want to think about it but the holidays are upon us and if you are in the mood for something different think about adding succulents into your holiday decor.

Press: Grace Ormonde Wedding Style

We are so excited to be featured in the new Fall/Winter 2012 issue of Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine, the magazine hits stores today. 

 

This table design was really fun for us to get to use some of our favorite types of flowers in unique ways. Joyce from Events of Distinction designed the triangle table layout and set the tone for us at Michael Daigian Design to create designs that were modern and unique. 

 

The photo shoot took place on the upper level of Terra Gallery in San Francisco. The staff there was so amazing and accommodating, they even moved a painting for us from downstairs to our shoot location that matched our table perfectly.If you are unfamiliar with this venue please check out their website and think of them for your next event. We have been to many event's at Terra and designed for weddings that took place there. It is a perfect location if you want a unique open space or a "blank canvas" to create any type of style or look you want for your event.

Roberta from Resource One Inc. took the desired look, shape and feel of the table and created these custom linens and chair covers.

About 250 tall white calla's were used to create this custom floral chandelier. We even designed it took look like it was hanging from a calla stem.

Underneath this large chandelier we covered the mechanics with green galax leaves and you can see that the callas were stacked on top of each other to create the chandelier.

Designing free standing succulent runners took time and patience but we think it was worth it, don't you?

We used succulents, green fuzzy dianthus and milk plant to create this vibrant green and amazingly textured table runner.

We wrapped tall votive holders and the container of the middle low arrangement with a mesh of black crystals to give a subtle touch of bling to the table.

Low diamond shaped arrangement of yellow pin cushions, succulents and white phaleanopsis orchids was placed under the large chandelier to balance out the visual weight.

Black and silver footed vases from Accent Decor held clean lined arrangements of tall white callas, yellow pin cushions and succulents.

We accented the tall arrangements with black mesh to add a modern non-floral texture

The table is ready for its close-up now!

Press: Alli & Cole featured in The Knot

We are excited to announce that we are featured in the new Fall/Winter 2012 issue of The Knot Northern California for Alli and Cole's San Francisco wedding at Pavilion by the Bay.  

We had the best time designing custom fashion inspired arrangements and food stations with Joyce Scardina-Becker from Events of Distinction, for this "Fashionably Ever After" wedding. From using Serger thread spools as containers for the cocktail table arrangements to custom making larger than life stacked spools of thread for the escort card display.

 Meg Perotti and her team took amazing photographs, as they always do. Meg perfectly captured the hip and fun personalities of the couple in all the shots.

When the bride,in her beautiful dress, entered the outdoor ceremony on the back of a motorcycle with her father driving we said " that's it, this wedding is made to be in magazines".

 

 "The fashionable couple planned an ultra-modern affair in black, white, gray, and vibrant purple, with graphic patterns for added punch."-The Knot

We used black and white checkered fabric to wrap the whimsical reception bar arrangements to pick up the checkered print from the groomsmen shoes

The weather was perfect and with a view like that what more can you ask for.

Trend: Succulents & Air Plants

Succulents and Air Plants are some of the most interesting plants currently being seen in floral design. Succulents are part of the Cacti family and they are exceptionally tough plants designed to retain water and they do very well in harsh weather conditions. Air plants, also know as epiphytes, are plants that can adsorb their nutrients through their leaves straight from thin air. These unique plants are just a tough as succulents, and they can stand weather conditions from 35-120 degrees!

We have been using succulents and air plants for a while here at Michael Daigian Design, and we have even created a "living wall" in our warehouse, check it out!

Trending: Cupcake vs. Cake

There seems to be a sweet battle going on in the wedding world these days; it’s a competition between cupcake versus cake. The question we beg is, are these mini, delicate, and dainty cupcakes taking over the large, traditional, and tiered wedding cake?

Cupcakes seem to be the perfect fit for weddings because it is an easy way to allow each guest to pick and choose their own unique flavor and design. However, no one said you need to do one or the other. Why not do both! Maybe cupcakes for the guests and cake for bride and groom? 

The more the merrier!

Here is an example of the best of both worlds; featuring  Kara's Cupcakes with a small cake on the top tier to have that traditional moment of cutting the cake for your parents and fun cupcakes in almost any flavor imaginable for all your guests to enjoy.

We helped to design this cupcake tier to compliment the "woodland" theme of the wedding...

Trending: Burlap Decor

This heavy-duty fabric is no longer used only to carry your potatoes from the local produce market; it is now one of the biggest trends seen in wedding décor across the world. It’s raw texture and neutral tones allow for a rustic, yet chic setting. Since the sturdy fabric holds a nude to brown color, it looks lovely next to rich and vibrant colors or bright ambient whites.

 

Burlap can serve many purposes in wedding decor; it can be used as a table runner, a napkin, or used as an accent around a chair, vase, bouquet, or invitation. Here is some of our work...

Press: A Soolip Wedding

Here is a highlight video, from Film Foto Fusion, of A Soolip Wedding bridal event that Michael Daigian Design was a part of this past February at the beautiful Bently Reserve in San Francisco. Movies: The Five-Year Engagement

Tom and Violet are finally getting married! We are so excited at Michael Daigian Design for this movie, The Five-Year Engagement, to come out on April 27th 2012. We had a great time designing florals for the key events in the movie...but we are not going to tell you all of them yet....it will ruin the surprise. The movie is going to be hilarious especially since it is coming from the producers of Bridesmaids. Once the movie is out we will post pictures of the scenes that we designed the florals for...but here are some images from The Five-Year Engagement site that show a few of the florals that we provided for the movie.

 We have been really lucky to have designed florals for many movies over the past 20 years or so. We did Milk, Bicentennial Man, Sister Act and Heartbreak Kid to name a few. We are excited to add The Five-Year Engagement to that list. We hope you all have a great time at the movie!
